Mainly videos on railfanning Union Pacific, BNSF, Amtrak, Metrolink, Coaster, Caltrain, & ACE trains throughout California. Great weather, great locations, great trains !
My name is Brent and when I came to America in the 1980's, I've always heard about American trains and their size and power, so one day I decided to go trackside and watch a Union Pacific freight train roll by. The sounds, the horns, the vibrations, and the friendly crew made it all too an amazing experience that I will never forget ! Since then, I have always had a passion for railroading and began what would be my career in the railroad industry. I mainly focus on railfanning at different stations throughout the state of California to provide a holistic perspective, but will also try to attend railroad related events. However, due to the nature of my job, some uploads can have a substantial time gap because of my work. I currently use the Sony Handycam FDR-AX33 for all of my videos. Thanks for visiting my channel !

Railfanning San Diego - 11/21/21
After I finished riding the San Diego Trolley’s newly opened UCSD Blue Line, I made a pit stop at the Downtown San Diego Santa Fe Depot to revisit an old favorite and to do some quick, improvised railfanning. When I got to the station, there were three trains anticipated within only 30 minutes, those of which being Coaster #677, Amtrak 572, and Amtrak 581; so, I got set up for those trains. This station hasn’t changed much since my previous visits and railfanning trips here, except the noticeable replacement of the giant palm trees, now replaced with newer smaller palm trees. Rather though, the noticeable changes have been the newer constructed buildings around the station which used to originally be wide open parking lots. That, and the displeasing quiet zone that has unremarkably been around for almost a decade now since its implementation in 2012. It was a great time when the horns were still around, that’s for sure !
Train 1 : Coaster #677 with SC-44 #5002 & CabCar #2307. Friendly crew on #677 ! My first time seeing the Coaster Siemens SC-44 Charger, and I’ll have to admit, the paint scheme is lacking the eye catchiness that the old F40PHM-2C’s and F59PHI’s had in my personal opinion. It also sounds like the E-Bell on these units are a little more rounded off in terms of sound and not as sharp of a “ping” of the bell as the Amtrak Surfliner Chargers. Though it’s not the same as it used to be as the railroad progresses, the newer power will be of great benefit and will certainly get the job done.
Train 2: Amtrak 572 with SC-44 #2122 & CabCar #6906. Some nice spotlighting effects on the train from the gleaming light between the skyscrapers !
Train 3: Amtrak 581 with CabCar #6901 & SC-44 #2119. Right as Amtrak 572 pulls into the Downtown San Diego Santa Fe Depot, Amtrak 581 departs on schedule, northbound, and ultimately to its final destination of Los Angeles Union Station. Makes for a nice meet for sure !
Thanks for Watching !

Well folks, as a final farewell and ultimate conclusion to railfanning in Northern California, I decided to head out for one last outing and revisit a great railfanning hot spot. I personally couldn’t get enough of the action at Oakland - Jack London Square three months back and thought it would be worth returning to railfan once again, this time focusing on the evening / night action as my fin...

Well folks, it has been a long time coming, but after years of culminating railfanning trips, the end is here ! After many trips, many trains caught, and many great crews, this video brings to a close to my railfanning series of Amtrak stations throughout Northern California. More specifically, one of the first stations I ever visited in NorCal was at Martinez back in 2015. Thus, it would only ...

After a couple of years residing in the capitol of the golden state, I decided to finally head out and do a comprehensive railfanning video of the Sacramento (i.e. Sacramento Valley) Amtrak Station and nearby trackside spots, including the Sacramento River waterfront. Finally, after longed anticipation and while in San Jose, I made my way out to the Diridon Station to finally definitively railfan here. I miss you too! Come back and I'll see you soon!
My family and I stopped here on our way to Santa Cruz in November of 2022 to charge my dad’s Etron and it’s a really cute town
Fantastic video!
Thank you !
Yea great catches at this station in this town with the coaster and the picfic surfliner Sorry you couldn’t get any horn action because the quiet zone This zone got put up because it seems like some people who don’t like trains are complaining about train whistle They are complaining about the whistles because they think there too loud and disturbing and they money don’t like haw night trains can wake them up like the polar express so yea that why this zone is here we know. But I hurd this zone got lifted so naw these days any railfanning can get horn shows again but some old people are starting to complain about the nose again Hopefully some day the people who are complaining about train horns will understand that any railfan is out there trying to get horn shows
Thank you ! Yeah, I was fortunate to be able to catch some trains here a number of times before they implemented the QZ in late 2012. I’ve heard about brief lifts of the QZ and the few times horns are heard blowing again.
I see@@BrentNguyen46
I Love Ace Trains
Wasco is a middle of nowhere town
To be honest, it’s actually not as isolated as you may think. When I visited, it wasn’t much off the main highways to get here. If you want to see an example of a very desolate station, check out my “Railfanning Lompoc - Surf” video. That is one of the most desolate stations I’ve ever been to.
@@BrentNguyen46 okay

i still wanna know at what speed do Metrolink trains arrive at stations
Most heavy rail commuter trains usually approach the station around 30 MPH, but could vary depending on if the station is on a grade and the length of the train, etc.
Tyler Mac Beach I’m ready too go swimming

I'll try to visit......
What camera do you use for recording?
I use the Sony FDR-AX33.
K5LA equals crown 👑
Cool! California Cars are based on the design of the Superliners, as are the Pacific Surfliners.
Why did the 2nd ACE train back up?
That particular ACE train was running with extra cars that day, presumably for a school field trip or some event that required more capacity. Because it’s somewhat rare, the train was close enough to the crossing that it actuated the signals and had to back up to clear the crossing while boarding passengers for about 10 minutes.
This video is awesome. I only wish it could be played in reverse for a “cab ride” on the trolley!
Thanks ! Yeah, it actually is possible to film out the front forward direction if you can film over the operator and if the operator is okay with a camera behind them, haha
Hay Brent I Was At The Berkeley Amtrak Station Too
Nice ! Yeah, it’s a pretty nice place to catch and see trains !
Just checking in Brent. It's now 2024 and was wondering if you had any railfanning trips planned this year?
Yeah, I’ve been fairly busy with other priorities the last two years but I’m truly hoping to get back out there and catch some trains this year. Still in the books are Van Nuys, Chatsworth, and Burbank at the very least, but hopefully soon. Thanks for the checkup ! Sincerely appreciate the continued viewership !
@@BrentNguyen46 Awesome!

My favorite locomotives are the ace chargers models because I like the design and how they look i wish I was operating or driving them
Metrolink recently added weekend service to this line. That was due to Ventura hosting the X games last summer.
4:18 That is such a beautiful K5LA! Is it the first generation?
The air horns on these DMU trains sound so different than they did back in 2014. They are also overhauling these amazing light rail vehicles nowadays similar to that of the NCTD Coaster bombardier bilevel coaches and cab control cars.
@3:30 those boys sign a death wish? That train was coming in HOT!!
I was in the trolley when i was 3 years old in 2010 ok
